He is currently touring as a leader after twenty years of road apprenticeship with some of the most celebrated musicians and groups of our time.  \nNapoleon cut his teeth touring with pianist Benny Green\, The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra\, Michael Bublé\, and a thirteen year tenure with Freddy Cole. He has also performed with artists across the jazz spectrum such as Bill Charlap\, Natalie Cole\, Monty Alexander\, Rodney Whitaker and John Pizzarelli.  \nNapoleon has performed or arranged on over seventy records. He arranged as well as performed on Freddy Cole’s seven most recent records including the Grammy-nominated releases\, Freddy Cole Sings Mr. B and My Mood Is You. He performed on The Clayton Hamilton Orchestra: Live at MCG. Napoleon is featured on Buble’s Grammy-nominated CD/DVD Caught in the Act. \nNapoleon has played on The Tonight Show\, Late Night With David Letterman\, The View\, The Today Show\, and The Ellen DeGeneres show as well as TV shows in South America\, Europe and Asia. He has performed across the globe at notable venues including Royal Albert Hall\, The Sydney Opera House\, The Hollywood Bowl\, and Lincoln Center.  \nGuitarist George Benson calls Napoleon “sensational.” Detroit Free Press critic Mark Stryker says Napoleon “plays with a gentle\, purring tone that makes you lean in close to hear its range of color and articulation.” Washington Post critic Mike Joyce praises his “exceptionally nimble finger-style technique.” Comparing him to Wes Montgomery\, music critic Michael G. DESCRIPTION:Showtimes are at 7:30p & 9:30p for this performance. \n(Doors open at 5pm for dinner/Seating begins at 6:15p for the first show & 9:00p for the second show) \n************************************************************************************************** \nMusicians pay no cover when they bring their instrument.  \nA Detroit original\, Noah Jackson is a bassist\, cellist\, and composer specializing in black american music and classical music.  Aimed with a curiosity to where sound could touch audiences from within\, he has both written and performed music for large international audiences since 2010.  A graduate of Michigan State University (B.M.)\, and Manhattan School of Music (M.M.)\, Noah has performed with world renowned artists such as NEA Jazz Master Abdullah Ibrahim\, Branford Marsails\, Jason Marsalis\, The Marsalis Family\, Hugh Masekela\, Nnenna Freelon\, Kenny Garrett\, Wizard Harper\, George Burton\, Jazzmeia Horn\, and Christian Sands. Additionally\, he’s performed in many prominent venues and jazz festivals including Radio City Music Hall\, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola\, Jazz @ Lincoln Center\, Blue Note Jazz Club (New York City and Milan)\, Royal Albert Hall\, Victoria Hall (Geneva)\, Jazz in Marciac (Marciac\, France)\, The Library of Congress\, The Kennedy Center\, SFJAZZ\, The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival\, London Jazz Festival\, Montreal Jazz Festival\, and North Sea Jazz Festival. Noah Jackson also performed as part of the ceremony for the NEA Jazz Masters Award in 2019. He also recorded bass and cello on The Balance with Abdullah Ibrahim which reached #3 on the Billboard Jazz Charts (June 2019).  \nAs a band leader\, Noah had put on performances of original creative work with his band Full Circle. In 2011\, he made his self-produced debut album\, Contemplations- A Suite to critical acclaim and led Full Circle in the Detroit Jazz Festival in 2012. Since then\, Noah has collaborated with a wide variety of artists across the jazz spectrum. In 2017\, he has worked in collaboration with the American Ballet Theater with his string quartet Asè at Grace Farms in New Canaan\, CT. Noah\, along with vocalist and co-producer Candice Hoyes\, were named recipients of grants for a double jazz and string quartet project: Ellington to the World: Generational Power in Black Culture and Spaces from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and the New York Council of the Arts. The work premiered at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in September 2019 and was performed to a sold out audience in The CUBE @ DSO in February 2020. As of March 2021\, Noah has joined Cliff Bell’s in Detroit as Curator and Artist-in-Residence where he will perform with his group Full Circle and host sessions as well as bring in world-class talent to perform on it’s stage. \nNoah is endorsed by Aguilar Amps\, David Gage REAList LifeLine pickups\, and NOAH Guitars of Italy. It began at the age of four while constantly digging through his father’s jazz and R&B albums. His musical interests grew through his teen years when he absorbed himself in the hip-hop culture\, and morphed into DJing at parties under the name DJ M & M. The turning point came in high school when he explored singing\, but it was the saxophone that became his instrument of choice. \nMike immersed himself in private lessons with jazz legend Teddy Harris Jr.\, who also became his mentor\, and he took in the jazz scene at some of Detroit’s best-known jazz clubs – Bomacs Lounge\, Bert’s Market Place\, The Bluebird\, and Baker’s Keyboard Lounge. Along the way\, Mike’s mentors included resident masters Ken Cox\, George Goldsmith\, George Davidson\, Marcus Belgrave\, Donald Walden\, and Phil Lasley.  \nFresh out of high school in 1992\, Mike studied with master saxophonist Phil Lasley and also turned to his peers Dwight Adams\, Cassius Richmond\, Karriem Riggens\, Rodney Whittaker\, and James Carter. \n In 1997\, Mike was awarded a musical scholarship to the University of Hartford – Hartt School of Music. There\, he studied with jazz great and master saxophonist Jackie McLean. He also was awarded a musical scholarship from the Societie of the Culturally Concerned\, formerly known as the Bluebird Reunion\, based in Detroit. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhile studying at the Hartt School Conservatory\, Mike traveled to New York where he found and was hired by bassist Bill Lee (filmmaker Spike Lee’s father)\, pianist Marc Cary\, pianist Alan J. Palmer\, trumpeter Raymond Williams\, and bassist Hakim Jami. Not only did he perform with these greats\, he also recorded with them. Goold’s debut album “Rhythm in Contrast” features all of these different influences ranging from Jazz to Afro Caribbean rhythms and funk.

From 1965 through the mid-70’s\, he worked the Hammond B-3 organ “chitlin clubs” with his own groups and with jazz greats such as Sonny Stitt\, David “Fathead” Newman\, Grachan Monchur\, Mickey Roker\, Joe Dukes\, Roger Humphries\, Rodney Whitaker\, Robert Hurst\, Grant Green\, Jimmy Ponder\, Bruce Foreman\, and Henry Johnson\, appearing on two Johnson albums for MCA/Impulse. \nFrom 1975 to 1984\, based in Chicago\, Bill toured with blues greats Jimmy Witherspoon\, John Lee Hooker\, Son Seals\, and Fenton Robinson\, playing on two albums with Robinson\, two with Ko Ko Taylor\, and another with Roy Buchanan for Alligator Records. From 1984 through 1999\, Heid lived and worked in Detroit\, appearing on numerous records with Detroit blues artists Johnnie Bassett\, Joe Weaver\, and Alberta Adams\, which included sessions for Fedora\, Cannonball\, and Black Magic Records\, and two European tours. But the reason he plays is to encourage and influence people\nthrough his talents. \nBorn and raised in Zanesville\, Ohio\, Theron currently resides in Akron\, Ohio\, where he is the artist coordinator for Curated Storefront\, artist director at I Promise School\, and the\nfounder and artistic director of the Rubber City Jazz & Blues Festival which takes place\nannually in Akron\, Ohio’s downtown historic district. You can see him regularly performing\nat many jazz clubs and theaters in northeast Ohio. Theron is immensely involved in\npromoting the arts scene in Ohio. \nTheron received an amazing opportunity as he auditioned for and was cast as young Herbie\nHancock in the 2016 released film about Miles Davis\, Miles Ahead\, directed by and starring\nDon Cheadle. \nIn 2019\, Theron released his debut album\, No Concepts. Theron is currently working on his\nsecond album titled “Spirit Fruit”\, which reflects on essential and fundamental\ncharacteristics that bring positive vibes to peoples lives. This was inspired by Galatians\n5:22-23.

This inaugural community tour uses\ntraditional and nontraditional live music efforts to serve the community\, educate\nstudents\, and present world class music. Additionally\, On The Road develops\nexceptional beginner and novice jazz artists in order to support the growth of a global\naudience for jazz. On the Road has selected Anthony Hervey & Cedric Easton as joint\nfellowship recipients to co-lead a jazz Septet through the Midwest. \nThe Band\nAnthony Hervey\, co-lead/ trumpet\nCedric Easton\, co-lead/ drums\nDe’Sean Jones\, tenor saxophone \nGeorge Delancey\, bassist \nLexi Hamner\, trombone\nMiles Lennox\, piano/ keyboard \nJordan Pettay\, alto saxophone \nCedric Easton is a New York based administrating artist from Columbus\, Ohio. A self-\ntaught musician\, Cedric’s foundation for music and community building began in the\nblack Pentecostal church. While studying youth ministry and business at Ohio Christian\nUniversity\, Cedric’s dedication\, and desire to explore various forms of music afforded\nhim many opportunities to play with various national and international artist including\nJonathan Nelson\, Deitrick Haddon\, Dorinda Clark Cole\, Jeremy Pelt\, JD Allen\, Richard\nGiuliano\, and Chrisitan Howes. During this time\, he received honorable mention in Jazz\nTimes (2012)\, was commissioned by The Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center to compose\na theme song for the season\, and by the Maroon Arts Group to co-create and direct the\nmulti-disciplinary performance\, “Black Staccato” (2015 – 2016). Additionally\, he has \nself-released two music videos entitled\, “Inspire Me” (2016) and “Tears” (2018) Most\nrecently Cedric featured in a docufilm\, “Legacy: Jon Irabagon A Tenor Odyssey” (2021)\nCedric’s career spans beyond his experience performing. He worked as the Worship\nArts Director at New Covenant Believers Church (2006 – 2016)\, a teaching artist with\nthe Jazz Arts Group (2010 – 2015) Most recently\, in 2016 Cedric was recruited to work\nfor the prestigious Jazz at Lincoln Center based in New York City\, New York. He\ncurrently serves as the Associate Director of Outreach\, while maintaining an active performance schedule. \nAnthony Hervey is a New York based trumpeter\, composer\, and teacher from South\nFlorida. At the age of 18 he was admitted to the Juilliard School\, graduating with his\nB.M. in 2019 and his M.M. in 2020. Hailed as a “beautiful trumpet player of the first\nmagnitude” by Wynton Marsalis\, Hervey has performed at Jazz festivals and concert\nhalls around the world with some of the best that Jazz has to offer\, including Wynton\nMarsalis\, Rodney Whitaker\, Christian McBride\, Aaron Diehl\, and Jon Batiste. In recent\nyears\, he made his international debut as a bandleader at the Bern Jazz Festival in\nSwitzerland. In February of 2020\, he opened for the Branford Marsalis Quartet at Rose\nTheater with a co-led Jazz quartet\, Citizens of the Blues. He is also on Christian\nMcBride’s recent Big Band Album\, “For Jimmy\, Wes\, and Oliver”\, which was released\non Mack Avenue Records. On another note\, Hervey is prominently featured acting and\nplaying trumpet in the horror anthology series\, Monsterland\, airing on Hulu. He views\nmusic as a force that can uplift and inspire. In the same way music has changed his life\nand brought him joy\, he strives to spread that joy and change the lives of others.

Although she\nreceived much of her musical training in the Detroit Jazz scene\, she also\nobtained her Bachelor of Music degree from Oakland University. Gayelynn has\nrecorded projects with the group Straight Ahead\, (of which she is a cofounder)\nRalph Armstrong and Marcus Belgrave just to name a few. She has recently\nrecorded solo projects called “It’s About Time\,” “McKinFolk The New\nBeginning\,”and “Zoot Suit Funk.” Gayelynn McKinney’s many awards\ninclude: 2014 Kresge Artist Fellows recipient\, with the Group Straight Ahead\nand McKinFolk\, a Grammy Nomination\, Detroit Black Music Award recipient\,\nand Detroit Music Awards for best jazz composer. \nGayelynn McKinney has had the opportunity to travel extensively and play at many famous jazz festivals including Montreux-Jazz Fest\, Lionel Hampton Jazz Fest\, New Orleans Jazz Fest\, Essence Festival\, Olympics\, and the Kennedy Center. She has also\nperformed as a side musician with such notables as Benny Golson\, Dee Dee Bridgewater\, Diane Shure\, Jason Marsalis\, Freda Payne\, Roy Ayers\, Geri Allen\, Marcus Belgrave\, Chaka Khan\, Roy Hargrove\, Randy Brecker\, Rick Margitza\, Larry Coryell\, Ralphe Armstrong\, Steve Turre\, Kevin Mahogany\, James Carter\, Tim Ries\, (The Rolling Stones Music director) and “Speech” of “Arrested Development.” Gayelynn is also the last drummer to tour with Aretha Franklin. While performing with Aretha Franklin\, Gayelynn had the distinct honor to play for presidential hopeful\, Hilary Clinton. His newest solo project Indigenous was released in 2021 on Posi-Tone Records. According to executive producer and label co-owner\, Marc Free\, Indigenous “…explores the ‘Indigenous’ multi-cultural roots of our human family…”. Indigenous climbed to #7 on the JazzWeek Radio Charts. \nHis debut release on Posi-Tone\, Connections\, quickly gained attention when it hit the JazzWeek Radio charts as the “Highest Debut”. Rivera’s first recording\, Hercules was released in 2006 on his record label\, Rivera Records. Each member has served interchangeably as leader and accompanist to a variety of performing acts around the world\, serving in groups such as Lauryn Hill\, Snarky Puppy\, Ghost Note\, Etienne Charles\, and Godwin Louis to name a few.\n \n\n\n\n\nMost recently\, the band has won the “Jazz Road” touring grant from South Arts which they will use to kick off the debut tour for their forthcoming second record People Music. With this album\, The Smoogies refine their sound as a quartet\, deepening both their connection and cohesion. Due to Sean’s great talent both as a player and an educator\, he has been the focus of countless news articles and jazz radio programs. \nThough still young by jazz standards\, Dobbins has amassed an impressive list of playing companions. A product of the Ann Arbor Public Schools\, Sean has stayed devoted to education throughout his life. Early mentor Louis Smith\, an Ann Arbor Public Schools band teacher\, impressed the importance of a good education upon Sean at an early age. Sean is known in his community as a band director\, drum teacher and positive influence for many. \nIn 1999 Sean was asked to become the director of the Ann Arbor Public Schools Summer Jazz Program. This program was designed to help educate and inspire young artist as they began their quest of learning jazz. In 1998\, a year before Sean’s arrival\, the program was in jeopardy of being cancelled due to low enrollment. In 2000\, a year after Sean took over the reigns\, the enrollment more than tripled and a year later\, the group was featured on WEMU\, a national jazz radio program. \nAs a father of three\, Sean knows\, understands\, and accepts the challenge of continuing the art from through clinics\, master classes\, and concerts for up and coming musicians. Jones II is a native of Flint\, MI.  Since 1989 he has worked professionally with various artists in the USA\, Japan\, and Turkey.  Roger discovered his musical abilities when he was a youngster at church.  His gospel background provided a spring board to his passion for playing jazz music.  The church Greater Holy Temple COGIC where his father is pastor\, was like a musical battle ground for young musicians.  Roger cites his non- gospel influences as Miles Davis\, John Coltrane\, Herbie Hancock\, and McCoy Tyner.  After graduating from high school\, Roger attended Oberlin Conservatory in Oberlin Ohio.  While attending Oberlin\, Roger’s understanding and musicianship grew exponentially.  Many performance opportunities were afforded\, and his reputation grew.  Since this time\, Roger has performed and “sat in” with various musical icons associated with jazz and other musical styles.  Some of these individuals include Wynton Marsalis\, Joe Henderson\, Wallace Roney\, and JJ Johnson to name a few. \nRoger has developed into a cutting-edge band leader.  His band\, “Roger Jones & Higher Calling” is comprised of phenomenal musicians dedicated to inventing fresh and innovative ways to approach the execution of music.  Mixed with a soulful and modern approach\, the music of this band is innovative\, relevant to the current generation\, and swings ridiculously hard.  There is no doubt that Roger L. Her musical mission is to keep the ‘Soul’ in music alive. The 2017 release of her debut album\, “Southside Sounds”\, does just that\, as it is a soulful straight-ahead reflection of her upbringing on Chicago’s Southside. This collection of her original compositions is an attempt to pay homage to the Southside’s lively artistic\, cultural heritage influenced by Eddie Harris & Gene Ammons. In 2021\, Lombre released her most recent single “Come Find Me” which she describes as “lyrically\, a gospel song; harmonically\, a jazz song and rhythmically\, a hip-hop/R&B song. I didn’t create the song with any borders”. As JazzTimes puts it “Lombre says realized early on that by refusing to be constrained by convention— whether so-called “jazz” or otherwise—she’d be honoring\, rather than defiling\, the rich heritage she’d come to embrace.” \n  \nIn the May 2019\, Lombre toured the Midwest with her group\, the Alexis Lombre Trio\, and in January 2019 she toured South Africa with Englewood-Soweto Exchange that was powered by a MacArthur grant led by Ernest Dawkins. In 2017 she toured France with Bacongo Square Boulevard\, a trio comprised of French\, Congolese & American musicians. She has also played with internationally known musicians such as: Nicole Mitchell\, Jamila Woods\, the AACM Great Black Music Ensemble\, Laurin Talese\, Junius Paul\, Makaya McCraven\, Donald Harrison\, Bobby Watson\, Buster Williams\, Wadada Leo Smith\, Dee Alexander\, J Moss\, Cece Peniston\, Rudresh Mahanthappa\, and Nona Hendrix. DESCRIPTION:Showtimes are at 7:30p & 9:30p for this performance. \n(Doors open at 5pm for dinner/Seating begins at 6:15p for the first show & 9:00p for the second show) \n************************************************************************************************ \nA consummate musician\, Nathaniel Winn discovered his passion for the drums in church at the age of 4. Since then\, the Detroit\, Michigan native has never looked back. Nate has had the pleasure to work with many well-known musicians such as Danilo Perez\, Robert Hurst\, Pat Metheny and Joshua Redman. Nate’s versatile\, but unique style has earned him the opportunity appear on numerous albums.   \nNate’s style is influenced by Jazz\, Blues and his Gospel upbringing\, along with some of his favorite drummers: Brian Blade\, Kendrick Scott\, and Calvin Rodgers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nNate graduated from Wayne State University and Berklee College of Music with a bachelor’s in music and a master’s in jazz performance\, respectively. Currently\, he spends time traveling the world to spread the message of love and hope through music.
